I recently brought a fordson power major tricycle, just wondering how many were built, also where is the serial number, I only know that they built between 1958- 1961. Thanks

you serial number should be stamped on the engine block above the generator on the right side.
power major serial number list:

1958: 1481091
1959: 1494448
1960: 1538065
1961: 1583906

I have one, too and have seen a couple. There is some claim that 49 were imported into the US. They were not rugged enough for our conditions. Frames twisted and bolts stripped out. I had my bolt holes sleeved and re-threaded, a pretty expensive deal. One bolster that my neighbor owns has stiffeners welded in. Mine is all cast.
There seems to be a brace that should go from the bolster to the engine crank-case cover, but I haven't seen one to copy.
The first one is the welded one. Note that there are some design differences.

Conversion for Narrow Front Fordson Major.

This axle was manufactured in Belgrade, MN.
The Serial plate says 356, which may mean 3rd unit for 1956. It was installed in a 1956 tractor. The Model No is FMD 7296. (Fordson Major Diesel) I can't make anything from the number, maybe 72 inch tread?. I don't live very far away, but I've never stopped to see if anyone remembers the outfit.

Hi
I think if thats a roadless conversion there
was about 200 made, But not %100 sure if thats
true, from where I read it, or if anybody else
did a conversion to.

All the power majors i have had Just had the
serial number on a pad on the block under no 1
injector. The plate on the bulk head just had
product of ford or maybe fordson motor company.
Can't quite remember which way it's written.
the supers had the same plate also. if the
tractors had a replacement motor if it's a
power major or newer it kinda looses the
identity, and you have to date it from casting
codes.
the info for power majors in my bible said
this.
1st power built July 58 introduced %100
starting # 1481091
last built 21 11 1960 # 1578885.
anything very soon after that # in 60 would be
a super and no powers built in 61 according to
what info I have.
the new majors before the power had the
bulkhead plate with serial# and the same on the
block if original motor still fitted. There
could well be different plates if supplied to
Australia by the importers there. But have only
seen the same plates and locations as U.K
tractors here in Canada or the U.S.A so far.

Yep thats it but not on a power major or super it doesn't have the engine no in print or the rectangle stamped . I bet if thats a gas around 52 or so. if you look on top of the block flange by where the starter bolts. the same serial number is stamped there, if the motors original. The runner i got here is like that and the same on an early diesel spare motor i have, not round the other side on the front right side like on the newer diesels.
Regards Robert
