The original subject was "Re: need help with 4wd front axel parts".

hello again, been busy for the last 4 months reengineering my front axle. what I did was to replace the inner half of the double u-joint with a regular cross joint and put a yoke on the inner axle. First I bored the bearing caps that I made years earlier to except the u-joint cap from a cross joint that was big and long enough to work. Next was to find a joke to fit the cross joint and that I could attach to the inner axle which is case hardened and could not be welded. I located a yoke for a power take off that had a 1 1/2" bore and a 3/8 keyway so turned down axle and cut in keyway and pressed on yoke which needed to be welded up so I could shorten it to make it fit in the short distance and into the axle housing. With a lot of work it's back on the farm. I'm attaching some pictures and hope their worth a thousand words and it can be done. Bud

Hi. This is not relevant to this particular article, but your last few words are as true as they get. IT CAN BE DONE and that goes for most things. Sit back and think and if you can't see the answer get somebody else to think. Cos yep whatever it is--"it can be done". Mike
