Fuel dripping from pneumatic governor breather

Hi I am new here and I hope I am not repeating a post. I just bought my first tractor . 1958 ford dexta 2000 diesel with Simms injector pump. I have fuel leaking from lift pump which I think is just a gasket. Does fuel lubricate the cam for lift pump? I also have fuel dripping from the governor breather port, I don't think this is supposed to do this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Gary

The lift pump cam is lubricated by diesel in the
pump cam box. The lift pump can fail and overfill
the pump with oil but there should be a breather
tube with a curl in it on the cam box to allow
excess diesel to fall on the ground. If you have
diesel coming from the governor breather the pump
is way overfull.

I would suspect you need a new lift pump.

Thanks for quick reply! Ok so I figured out the previous owner plugged
The overflow with the curl was plugged by previous owner I unplugged it put a new governor diaphragm in and now I have fuel dripping from overflow tube constantly when running
So you think that excess fuel is getting past the lift pump diaphragm into the bottom of the Simms pump? I hope this is the case

Thanks
Gary

Most probably the lift pump leaking in, but the injector pump cam box is lubricated by oil not Diesel fuel.
Use the same grade oil as for the engine crankcase, it sould be changed when you do the engine oil, but not many people ever did!

Is this for sure on oil for injector pump? This is a 3 cylinder diesel with a Simms pump. I just want to make sure because I have seen any information stating that this is the case in my manual
I would appreciate any information I can get to confirm this

Thanks

I've got a new lift pump on the way

No the diesel pump is not lubricated by oil on the
pneumatic governor equipped pumps, it is
lubricated by diesel that is bled down from the
pumping elements.

On the mechanical governed pump on the later Dexta
and Super Dexta, the Minimec, oil is used to lubricate the
governor only, the pumping elements and cam box
are still lubricated by diesel.

At least that was correct when I was a Simms
trained engineer back in the day and working on
these tractors.

Yes I would suspect you have a leaking lift pump
diaphragm. That is the usual cause of excess
diesel in the cam box.
