Hello Wayne, I just picked up the same tractor as yours, nice running little tractor. It does have a a lot of free play in steering box and when in 6th guy has lots of steering wobble. What type,of rebuild did you do to yours, is it wear or adjustments?

Just wondering what the job involves before I start tearing into and info parts a available?

Look up Dexta on eBay. They have a rebuild kit @ $81. I bought mine at a dealer out in Missiouri. Includes a top shaft and race/bearings and side seals. Replace and rebuild top, and remove left arm, then the housing. Replace side seals. Removal of shims tightens and takes out play. Figure that out and put it back together. My issue came that when you replace the left housing it needs a gasket or RTV to seal.

This one is perfect now. Like new. No play, no leaks, can't lift the steering wheel and feel play. Did I mention clearly, leaks.'

Two more points:
1. Shims are only on left housing. Right housing does not need pulled. Seals may be replaced without pulling housings. Pull left housing and remove shims till wheel is tight, but turns well. Clean crud from bottom before re-assembly, there normally is crud. (shim removal) This is only after rebuild of top shaft, or it it tight.
2. Dexta wheel wobble most of the time is caused from worn tie-rod ends. **with rebuilt steering gers, new tie rod, and spindle bearings, and with a steering wheel spinner knob, my Dextas steer with one hand.
