# 1 upgrade. Convert positive ground to negative ground.
# 2 upgrade. Install a real detent type remote valve.
# 3 upgrade. Pull the gear shifter, build up the tip till it won't shift, then file till it shifts. Stop binding gears.
# 4 upgrade. Ditch the Lucas, install a SI-10 Delco alternator
# 5 upgrade. Ditch the OEM glow plug, retapp and install a thermostatic glow plug from the 1000 series Ford tractors that has fuel and heat together. If you are installing a key starer, good time is then.
# 6 upgrade. Clean the battery box, install an optima.
# 7 upgrade. Install 00 extra heavy duty battery cables, with soldered connections.
# 8 upgrade. 13.6x28 vs 12s and 10s rears
# 9 upgrade. Dump those headlamps, install something brighter and cheaper. Use them.
#10 upgrade. Havent done this one yet, but gonna. Replace the radior filler inlet with smaller stant size filler, use pressure tester to find leaks.
#11 upgrade. Dump the idiot lights and install gages, oil and battery voltage (not amperage)
#12 upgrade. Inconcert with starter, alternator, thermal glow plug and negative ground, use the start switch from 1000 series Ford, Off-accy-spring heat-glow, spring start switch.
#13 upgrade. Dump the seat, and install a spring seat with side arms that is comfortable.
#14 upgrade. If you are doing a lot of mowing, predominately, dump the 3 rib fronts and replace with 7.50 bias ply truck tires.
#15 upgrade. 100 series Ford bumper.
#16 upgrade. ROPPS. I scrouged scrap and built a roll bar for one of mine, and I like it. next comes light on the roll bar.
#17 upgrade. Pull the air inlet and install a Donaldson. It is amazing how much dirt and dust my Donaldson(s) catches that doen go into my oil bath.
#18 upgrade. Power steering. I bought a PS kit for Dextas years back. never installed it, but it will be mount here soon, as this is the first tractor I have rebuilt the gearbox. Will report good or bad.
#19 upgrade. Probalbly closer to the top. Steering ball on the steering wheel. A must.
#20 upgrade. Load the tires. Weight equal traction. Before I load tires, I clean the rims, wire brush them and POR-15 them. I use simple ethelene glycol, used from flushing my cooling systems.

You are welcomed to share your opinion of my suggested upgrades. But remember these are my tractors, and they are used and will likely never see a show or museum. Now that I am reviewing the list, some of the last should be first, if this is a priorty list. I did not count maintenance as upgrades.

The only thing I might add would be a radiator update that ours got when nearly new, the bottom inlet was offset to the side with a larger tank. Yours ma alreadt have it.

I forgot the most important upgrade!

Dump that skinny tube muffler, install a change direction baffle muffler, such as a Stanley FO-2.
I do this one to all my Dextas and Super Dextas.

I make mine with a FO-2 muffler, adapter and flap from Agri-Supply, Tractor Supply, etc.

The difference in sound quality is significant, and absolutely no difference in power.

Why not just buy a diesel Massey 135 and forget all the mods that the fordson needed doing to make it usable?

You are right, the MF 35, 135 and 235 are near identical copies of the Super Dexta of another color.

Look thru the upgrades, and you will observe that most of them are also done on the MF tractors. For instance the MF came with cartiride filters, as did the early 1000 series Fords. Don't see too many people trading tractors because of filters. Realizing that MF all came negative ground, but the starters, the oil spin on filter are just upgrades from the ferguson line. Same with the exhaust.

I can afford to spend a few dollars on my Super Dextas. I own four Super dextas, and for what I payed for the four, I could maybe buy one MF 135.

Forgive me, but not one piece of equipment I own has not be upgraded. I am a mechanic, not a collector, and some upgrades are just logical because I am a mechanic.

Like the first time I saw someone trying to jump start a Dexta.

YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A BLOCK AND CRANK OR MOTOR FOR A 64 SUPER DEXTA 152.
IF SO HOW MUCH?
THANKS
SAW YOUR POSTING THAT YOU HAD 4 SUPER DEXTA'S
