Hi just taken rear wheel off my major and found new brake shoes but they are covered in oil. I can"t find these brakes on line, can someone help me identify them, they are worked by rods and they have an actuator at the bottom and one spring ,and at the top there is an adjuster. Thanks Zeb.

Thanks for helping, There is a single pedal no cable, i need to identify tractor so I can buy parts, on back end it says eia dkn lp1 also 995203 A ,under seat D21U . cheers zeb

The DKN number is just a casting part number and the same on every Major, the number under the seat is however a casting date code which is normally within a month of the tractor being produced.

Yours is April 21 1953 so she is an early Industrial if this is confirmed by other casting numbers on the various parts. Your serial number will be on the flange behind the starter and on a small plate on the fire wall just above the rocker cover. This would help confirming the tractor date.

The workshop manual shows the brakes being cable and rod operated but the parts book shows a rod operation as you say.

I would suspect parts are going to be hard to find if not impossible depending on where you are in the world.

You may also find it helpful to put a question on www.fordsontractorpages.nl.

Meant to say that most parts are obtainable but the actual brake parts would be difficult. The axle seals are the same on agricultural and industrial and are available from a number of suppliers. You may need to check the seal surface on the axle shaft before fitting new seals.

Engine casting number is eiadkn6015 e , above pump is1554 334 stamped in, can't see any other numbers.

As before the E1Ad number will not help as it will be the same on every tractor as it is the casting mould number. however the 1554344 indicates a June 1960 Power Major so it is possible you have a Fordson ASP (All Spare Parts) :0)

What is likely is that originally the tractor did not have hydraulics and some previous owner has fitted some from a 1953 Major.

Check for a casting code something like F21D near the clutch linkage on the side with the gearbox oil filler. This code would tell us whether it has had a new engine or just a hydraulic system.

Also where is the throttle located, Is it up under the steering wheel or down above the brake pedal?

All it says on there is d1c, and throttle is on steering column. Is the back axle oil seal hard to get at ?

That makes it a Power Major with a Fordson Major lift. Your year will be 1960.

You will have to strip the brake drum and hub and also take the lift off to get to the nut that holds the halfshaft in. Once the shaft is out the bearing will have to be removed with a puller or press before you get to the seal.

On the website I gave you there is a free manual on the home page, which will help you see how to do it.
