this is an early type engine with pressure relief valve behind timing cover,it has a good flow of oil from the oil gallery and registers 30psi on the gauge, engine has been primed from rockers, head removed but no sign of oil coming up through the block.I am open for suggstions please

Hi
I heard of a guy on another forum I belong to have the same problem. The outcome of his was that the oil feed passage from the crank journal up to the top of the motor was plugged.

The other thing is do you have the rubber square section sealing ring in the recessed hole in the block face. It seals the oil way from block to head.
It should be half way along the block near the side of a cylinder sleeve top, and goes under the head gasket. To find it, it will be on the left side as you look from front towards the back of the engine. if you don"t have it in, it might be dumping the pressure out there and not feeding up to the rockers.
Hope this might help and it is the rubber seal as that"s an easy fix putting that in and it wouldn't be the first time a guys missed it. They fall out when the gaskets removed, and some new gasket don't come with it included.
Regards Robert

many thanks robert, all what you suggested re head seal has been checked block was primed with oil but it just dissapeared, I will now adopt your suggestion and in vestigate lower half of engine cheers.

I once cleared this problem with a seriously high pressure air line straight down the oil pipe with the head off.( that made it possible to blow both directions) Then ran it on flushing oil for a while--don't remember how long. Mike
