Found a fordson major, it's locked up, but the straitest one you'll find, new tires, it's a diesel, all original. What are they worth, never seen one until yesterday.still has the badge on grill that says live pto live hydraulics. Or says something similar, forgot already lol. Just wanted to know if they have any value, I'm a MM guy.

The Major series are an excellent tractor. Their power is unbelievable for their size and horse power rating. Depending on the exact series ie. "New Fordson Major" (hand throttle is down on side of lower console) "Power Major" (Throttle is up by steering wheel, headlights on outside of grille, and should say Power Major on badge, or "Super Major", (headlights mounted on inside of grille with cut outs in grille screens) They range from 35 hp, to 38 hp, to 43 hp, if I remember correctly, and were built from 1953-1964.

They have a wet sleeve engine(sealed by "O" rings, top and bottom). It is possible to pull the injectors and put a good lubricating penetrating oil in the cylinders, and let it soak, pull the starter, and see if it can be turned with a bar in the flywheel, after soaking a few days.

If you do pull the injectors, keep track of the little lead return line washers, two per fitting, and the copper injector base washers, at the bottom of the injector holes (may stick to injector nozzles). Make sure you use a back up wrench when removing the injector lines, it is possible to break the tops of the injectors otherwise.

I maintained a fleet of about one hundred FM rentals, for pulling green pea combines, from 1964-1972.

The live hydralics mean that it has a two stage clutch, and the PTO has to be engaged to drive the Hyd. pump.

Good luck.

Hi
Round me in Manitoba Canada that"s a 500 to $1000 tractor depending actually how nice it is and how bad you want it!. If the motor needs pump/ Injector / machine shop work, go less than the $1000.
you will spend quite a bit on it with parts and shop time.
The market on this old iron has dropped in the last while. They are still a pretty common tractor. Maybe they just didn"t sell well in your area.
Basically you got to buy it because you want it, Not spend $5000 on buying/ restoring it, and think your gonna see it and a profit back selling it on.
I used to do them and sell to acreage guys. The last super major 5000 I had was sold for $3000 painted and all working/ good tires, 3 years ago that was a 4500 - $5000 unit.
This past year I stopped doing them for re sale. I could not afford to buy them do the work and give them away at 2500 if I could find a buyer, the market dropped that bad round here.
Now I just buy them to fill a gap in my collection or for parts I or other local guys might need.
I seem to be the phone and ask guy in this area for fordson major help or parts the wreckers don"t have.
Regards Robert

Well I went and tried to buy it for 1500, and he told me he wanted at least 3000, I thought no way your nuts! Guess I'll try in another year or so, I just thought it was kinda neat.

Sorry to hear that.
Go back and tell him to get it running/ driving and you would be a bit more interested in it at $2500. you won't be out of pocket then, and he might realize what a generous offer you made! . sounds to me that sentimental value is higher than scrap price again L.O.L.
I meet these guys all the time so I'm use to it now.
I bid a guy $500 for a tractor with bent fenders, flat tires, no starter , water in the oil pan, and 3 point missing.
I wanted a couple of nice parts from it. Guy just about called the cops, said it was worth $2000 as is.
I saw it advertised for best offer online a year later, and thought no way I'am calling buddy you had your chance with my money.
A Guy asked me about parts soon after, guessed it was that tractor from what he wanted. I asked what he bid if he didn't mind me asking. He said the guy about took my arm off at $500, and couldn't help load it fast enough!.
Regards Robert

This is one of those guys that doesn't care If it sits or not, as soon as something goes wrong he parks it, he has equipment all over, where they shutoff is where they sit, they won't ever move again.

Apparently even here in England where they were made they are notoriously difficult to get spares for these days.

Hi
You must live a very sheltered life to say that L.O.L.
There are hundreds of them around for used parts. and a good few places selling reman stuff like Vapormatic/ Sparex and Bepco, plus other companies.
The only things that will be hard to find in the U.k will be good original used tin work, unless it is imported from Canada/U.S.A. And possibly the original 2 stage clutch if new suppliers are sold out. The rest of it is available from somewhere if a guy knows where to look.
There are still a fair few in the wreckers in North America too just not many with the tin still on!.
Regards Robert
