Fordson super major hydraulics

Hi, I have a 1963 Fordson super major that I just finished restoring. I know that the hydraulics only work when the pto is in gear but, I have noticed that the hydraulics will not hold an implement up unless the pto is running. Should this be the case or should the hydraulics have a hold feature that keeps the implement up even when the pto is disengaged? My other tractors will hold up even when the tractor is not running as long as the lever is not moved. Thanks for your help.

Hi when the pto is not running the arms should stay up for a reasonable time. when the hydraulics are up with a load on are they bobbing up and down( correcting height) a lot? if so it could be a leaky valve or the piston seal or piston bore is damaged or both parts usually.

Those are not uncommon things to find on a super major. the hyd lift system can be a big pain in the butt on these later majors tractors sadly, they are way over complicated to the early and power major.

Hello Robert , I saw on an older post about serial numbers you had it was broken down by Month and Year , was that a Ford list of serial numbers ? I am looking for a serial number list for Major's and Dexta's that was originally printed by Ford . Do you have one ? Thanks Tony Jacobs

Hi Tony
No sorry I don't have an original ford printed list. All I have is an IT shop manual and a Fordson Major history book that lists them.
Regards Robert
