Fordson Dexta

OK, I need some more help with the Fordson Dexta. I replaced the manual fuel pmp and the diaphram on the back of the injection pump, (reccomended by Wayne B) tractor ran like new for a while. Was bushhogging and started to loose power, no throttle response just kind of idling along, limpped back to the barn. Check the fuel tank, sedimemt, cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel filter, new dsl fuel. Pull started the tractor (I ran the battery down trying to start the tractor). Again tractor running like a champ!!!, went to do some bushhogging and lost power again. checked everything all tight, no air leaks, can not figure out what's up. Was checking the air intake, has very little suction?? Could this be the problem??? What do I do or check? Any and all help appreciated!!!! Thanks Charlie

check fuel return, some needs to return to tank.

Assuming you still have the OEM filter. Is there a large flat rubber washer at bottom of filter cartride that makes clean fuel flow thru the filter and not suck unfiltered fuel thru the hole at bottom. If not, fix, blow out every line.

Remove fuel cap, apply 5-10 PSI air, preferrably with a small type compressor, using wrags, tape or whatever to seal the opening. Net is small amount of pressure to find leaks. Fix leaks. (not every fuel line leak-leaks fuel. Some suck air)

Check butterfly valve on air induction side to verify movement. On pneumatic govenor, that is your throttle. Here's a quick check to see if it is butterfly valve. Loosen glow plug and start engine. If when glow plug removed, she revs up, its not fuel... With glow plug out, it'll run more than wide open!

Thanks for all the help, I finally had some time and ended up taking the hood off so I could check out everything. Yep that's when I found the problem. The hose from the air cleaner to the inlet had dry rotted and collapsed on itself, restricting the airflow. Tractor running great with the hose open.

I had to order the hose because no had anything that big with that bend in it. oh well that's my luck. The new hose should be here on Friday, so the Dexta should be back up and running!!

Thanks to all again!! Charlie
