Hi all, replaced the fuel pump bowl gasket on my '59 Power Major diesel, and it won't seal. Everything was thoroughly cleaned before replacement, and now it leaks worse than before. The fuel pump is a replacement unit from before I got the tractor. I know this because it doesn't have a bleeder handle and is marked AC. The gasket out of the package is rubber but seems a bit on the hard side and doesn't seem to want to "crush" to fill in the pitting in the groove the bowl sits in. Any recommendations? I know silicone is not the best answer, but I don't want to order and wait for a new gasket. I need the tractor going ASAP. Thanks!

That's what I was thinking also. I'm going to replace the pump anyway later in the year. As I said, the seating area of the bowl is pitted and looks like crap and seals poorly.
