1962 Power Major

Well we got the old girl running. Turns out my uncle had run it til it ran out of fuel and just parked it. So the tank was dry, but there was still fuel in the rest of the system. We flushed the tank, put clean fresh diesel in it, and then bled it step by step to the injector lines. Fuel in the lift pump, fuel filter, and injector pump was still clean. Of course, in the process we found that while he had had the tractor he had fried the solenoid and broken the starter engage button on the front of the starter. A jumper wire solved this temporarily. Once we got her goin, WOW! She ran smooth with no hiccups and once warm, ran all through the rpm range with no stutters, farts, or any wierd noises, AND NO SMOKE! Hydraulics work, transmissions both work and the alternator charges properly. Lights and guages don"t work, and the return for the auxillary hydraulics is cracked, but those are problems for another day! Gonna change out all the fluids at Easter when we"re out there again.

Thats a very nice tractor, only the air cleaner top & alternator are not original

The Power Major was built 1958-60

If you post the serial number I will give you the date of production.

Serial number on the right front of the block at the top where it meets the head.

Sorry, my bad! It"s a 1958. I got the numbers fudged when we were checking. And we know the alternator isn"t original, but it had the conversion when my other uncle bought it before my Dad. I"d still like to get a hold of the earlier mentioned uncle, who is a certifies mechanic, and wring his neck! The guy is a butcher. When he sold HIS Major, he had already left the province and told the buyer he could have whatever was on that Major and near the tractor. Turns out he had scavenged parts from my Dad"s and "forgot" they were on or near his Major. Luckily, my Dad knows the fellow who bought it, so it was all worked out without any animosity! By the way, the N in the background of a couple of those pics is the 2/8N Dad and I got running last summer, works GREAT! Just wish it had the live hydraulics like the Major! Also BTW KFD, thanks for the offer, if I need any help at all, I will post back!
