I have fordson major 1952 the hydraulic pressure is 1100PSI. The book states it should be around 3200PSI. Has any one rebuilt a pump, and are the parts available, how difficult is it?

Don"t know what book you are reading but the hydraulic pressure has never been over 3000 psi. Normally on an FMD it should be 2000-2100 psi at 1200 rpm with a new pump.

Have you tried shimming the unload valve?

The pumps are no longer available, you have to fit a Super Major pump with a right angle elbow adaptor, a pump will cost £600 and an adaptor is like hens teeth, very rare.

Thanks, I miss read the manual it was talking about a pressure gauge for testing. the manual does say (pargh 231 system relief pressure adjustments) if using heavier implements it is permissible to increase the pressure relief setting to 2500-2700 PSI. yes I tried shimming the unload valve and got 100PSI more, then when I added more shims it started going back down. Has any one ever rebuilt one of these pumps. I am a retired aerospace engineer and I also restore old cars and have made parts before.

I dismantled 2 FORDSON motor for part and they had a hydrolic pump near the fuel pump and connect to front cover and these pump look like van pump

I have though about using an external electric pump or using one that attaches to the PTO. I can pickup all of my implements (i.e. plow, Disc, blade) but I can,t raise or lower my swather and operate other tools

thanks for the comment
