I have fordson major 1952 the hydraulic pressure is 1100PSI. The book states it should be around 3200PSI. Has any one rebuilt a pump, and are the parts available, how difficult is it? |

| | Don"t know what book you are reading but the hydraulic pressure has never been over 3000 psi. Normally on an FMD it should be 2000-2100 psi at 1200 rpm with a new pump. Have you tried shimming the unload valve? The pumps are no longer available, you have to fit a Super Major pump with a right angle elbow adaptor, a pump will cost £600 and an adaptor is like hens teeth, very rare. |

| Thanks, I miss read the manual it was talking about a pressure gauge for testing. the manual does say (pargh 231 system relief pressure adjustments) if using heavier implements it is permissible to increase the pressure relief setting to 2500-2700 PSI. yes I tried shimming the unload valve and got 100PSI more, then when I added more shims it started going back down. Has any one ever rebuilt one of these pumps. I am a retired aerospace engineer and I also restore old cars and have made parts before. |
