Todd Heck 07-31-2011 12:23:50 98.28.70.169 Report to Moderator	I came across this fordson and not sure if it is worth the price. They say it need the carb rebuilt and nothing else. They want 2500.00 for it and they say it is an England made 1936. I only have worked on farmalls so I know nothing about the tractor or worth. Thanks for any info you can give me . Check. What size are the back wheels then you can tell if they are cut down. Centres look correct. Fronts no idea. Std N had several different gearboxes but the major essential diference was the top Gear ratio. Somewhere on the clutch housing there will be series of No's For instance: - 4.9 std =4.9 mph with a standard low gear. or 4.9 SR = 4.9mph with a low-low ploughing gear. Front wheels are older American style that have been cut off and converted to rubber tire rims. Rears could be the original English wheels cut off and converted to rubber tire rims. This makes the tractor driveable in parades, etc. Lots of parts and information are available. I think the $2500 asking price is pretty fair for a pretty decent tractor. You have to be stuck on Fords to admire it. It gets attention because not many show up. Make sure that the carb isn't an excuse for not showing how well it runs. (or badly) Besides carb, the magneto and governor could need work. It's a hobby. Even after repairs, it won't go up enough to recover your expense. Remember, you need to be a pretty strong person to crank start them, and with worm drive you can't pull-start them without wrecking something. [Reply]  [No Email]

I saw the engine block looked funny, but thought it was just paint. They never came with starters, unless they were the industrial model. If you want to avoid hand-cranking, you could put the tractor in neutral and connect the belt pulley with a flat belt to another tractor and spin the motor that way. In 1939, when the majority of tractors came out with electric starters, the farmers made a deep bow to engineer Charles Kettering. To them it was the number one advancement in tractor design. Just imagine the convenience! During WWII, the electrical equipment was deleted on many tractors to conserve copper. [Reply]  [No Email]

Looks from the picture that the carb is off. If the original carb is not there expect a long search to find one a may have to pay $200+ to get one. Also the side of the block looks wavey which may indicate a freeze repair, which they often did in this area. Cracked blocks bring the price down a little.
