Fordson Fuel Tank Info Request

New User
I posted this topic on one of the other Ford forums before I found the Fordson page. Thanks guys, for the replies I receieved there.

I normally frequent the Allis sites so I feel a bit like a foreigner posting on the Ford site. The reason I am here is that we have a Ford fuel tank that we acquired some time ago, we can"t even remember where we got it or why we have it, but we do, and it"s time to move it on to the next person that may want it. We are unsure even what it is for, so I am going to attempt to post a photo of it in hopes someone may be able to help identify it or maybe have a use for it. It is located near Blanchester, OH and is for sale. Any info as to what it is, or what it fits would be appreciated. The tank measures 39" long x 18" wide x 9" high. I have more photos if you are interested.

I have looked around the web at several photos of the older Fordsons and noticed that the Model N seems to always be pictured with 2 fuel caps on the fuel tank, one for kero and the other for gasoline. The photos however of the model F only show one fuel cap. The tank I have only has one cap and only one outlet. Could it be that this tank is for a model F?
I have included a photo that shows the top of the tank. I would like to offer this tank for sale but I have no idea of it's value. Could any of you Ford guys give an Allis guy a clue about it's value?

Thanks for your responses.

Because it was made in Dearborn, Michigan, it is a Model F. Model N were made in Ireland or in England. They are physically exactly the same size. New ones are pretty costly.

Hi. I saw your post and then remembered this. Its a page from a write up on the Models "F", "N" and the "E27N". I cant verify the accuracy of the info so I'm posting this just for interest. The whole write up is about 12 pages, but if anyone is interested I'll post it or copy it and email to individuals.Guess you will need to enlarge it to read it properly

Bret,
To be specific on the years used, this tank was used starting in early to mid 1919 thru 1922 on American made model 'F' Fordsons. Earlier tanks (1918) had the same embossed end, but were seamed differently. Starting in 1923 the tanks now said Ford Motor Company Detroit, Mich. instead of Henry Ford and Son. All of these tanks up until late 1924 had one fill neck as this was the kerosene tank, and the gas starting tank was separate. Starting in late 1924 the starting tank was incorporated into the main tank, and these tanks now have two filling necks. Technically your tank will fit any Fordson from 1918 thru 1952 as the overall tank shape and size never changed from the early models F's, Irish model N's, English model N's, or even the E27N's. By the way, that is an original valve/sediment bowl used from 1918 thru most of 1924. Looks like a real nice tank!

Thanks so much for the responses. Is anyone willing to comment on the value of such a tank, and the bowls? We would really like for it to pass to a new owner but really have no idea of it's value. Dad (the owner of the tank) has priced it and the settlement bowl pictured at $450. Is that about right? The inside of the tank is in pristine condition.

You may get $450 as I've seen some sell on Ebay for that much, but rarely, and most that bring this price are either an Irish tank or very eary tank that are harder to come by. The valves sell for around $20-$35, as new ones are availible for about $75. They made hundreds of thousands of this style valve for the fordsons and millions were used on the Model T, so not exceptionally rare. Nice gas tanks like this style, that are not all dented up or rusted thru, typically sell in the $100-$200 range in my area of the country. This style tank there were well over 200,000 made, so again there are still quite a lot around. It all goes back to the saying, It is worth what someone is willing to pay.
