I have oil leaking from the shaft left brake pedal is attatched to. Manual I have shows no seal or anything to replace. Any idea why it is leaking from here?

Hi Just read your post could you please tell us what model tractor you have. We might then be able to help you!

If its like the 4000 series Fords the rear axle is filled with oil and there is a rubber boot/seal which seals at the brake rods on both sides.

Look on Messicks web site for a parts breakdown under Ford/New Holland brakes.

Looks about like the picture in my manual. Does not show a seal of any kind. Oil also leaking out of shaft clutch pedal is mounted on.

62 Super Major diesel. Oil also leaks from shaft clutch pedal is attatched to. iagram in book looks like the shafts are some how connected but does not show a seal. Thanks.

Hi. You are correct there are no oil seals in those areas, because there shouldn't be any oil. So my thoughts are that oil is either coming out of the engine at the rear oil seal or coming forward from the gearbox(unlikely)I cant think of anywhere else It can come from, but I'm open to being educated. Hi
on your major there is oil seals on the shaft the brake pedals and clutch pedal is mounted on. it is rear axle oil that is leaking out. the shaft runs right through the transmission housing.
when you look at the end of the shaft you will see a washer behind the pedal against the housing the seal is behind that. you have to drain the rear axle oil. remove the pedals and pull the shaft to get them out. Chances are that the seal is split and the shaft has a wear grove in it. The seals are available from Agriline products in the U.K or some thing that will do from your local bearing supply company. if the shaft is grooved you will have to do something with it as the seals will leak again if ya dont.
I hope this helps ya a bit if ya stuck ask Im just doing the seals in on of mine.
Regards Robert

Sorry I missed the fact that its a Super Major. You are right there is no seal shown in the workshop manual diagram. However I've just checked with Agriline here in UK and they list it.(£3.50 each) So it is definitely??????????? available. Its an age thing. Sometimes I read things and sometimes I think I read things. MTF

thanks for the info. I just finished taking off the petals and saw that there was in fact t seal there. I was able to get them out. Nimber on it is RTB 2581. I don"t see a groove but book does not say how to get shaft out so will have to see what happens when I try.
