losing power

i just got my fordson major a year or so ago and am learning more each time i use it. recently i am experiencing a loss of power. It idles just fine and digs just fine heck it even lifts a load just fine the problems is it doesn"t want to pull itself unless i am on dry straight ground. i took it to get looked at and theyare telling me it"s the clutch and would cost me 4600.00 to take off the sherman backhoe and Lord loader to be able to do the job. This just don"t sound right can i get someone who knows about these to help out?
also i know how to start it obviously and have been told recently the lever on the front of the motor needs to be up while using it and i ran it that way for a week I think it messed something up. and i was wondering what was the lever on the right side of the shifter and how is it used?

somebody is trying to get rich off you, i have put cluthes in cases, fords massey and the labor is 800-1200 dallors I rather put new in tan rebulit, if i think somebody is trying to get next to me i start shoping around. I have backhos that i could only slide motor forward just enough to remove fly wheel and pressure plate and that was my hight priced job, you just want the clutch repaired not buy a new backhoe

thats what i was thinking too. I have a shop mechanic but he is unable to do it. I will look around and get another quote thank you.

i received another quote that included getting the front and rear main seal of the motor taken care of at the same time. 1,000.00 I am so glad i looked around. Ty for your advice.
