A selection of recently restored British non-safety cabs made pre-1965.

In 1972 safety cabs became compulsary fitting on all tractors, and the old non-safety cabs were taken off and thrown away. Only a few survived over the years, they were made of thin steel and have rusted away. Today one in unrestored condition will fetch $300-$500 because they are so rare[/b:808945a2f7]

I like the looks of that tractor.
A toss up as to which cabs I like better.

The second one has good fit and finish to it but the third one looks like it may provide better
vision in the field. However I would take any of the three tractors.

So was there any verified reduction in injuries? Or was it just a bureacratic device to burden the farmers? In the US, the lasting injury seems to be deafness caused by exhaust noise...or squeaking tracks on crawlers. Many tractors were run without mufflers. Those farmers are probably in their 80's by now. Some of the early cabs just vibrated relentlessly, making hearing loss all the worse. But they kept the rain off and either warmed or cooled the driver.

Yes injuries were reduced, in 1975 or 6 all tractor cabs had to be 'Q' cabs with low noise levels, thats when we got the 'bubble' or world wide cab on Fords and the Massey 500 series tractors came out with quiet cabs to cut down hearing injuies. I remember we had a new M-F 168 in 1973 that came with a set of ear defenders! I live in NZ now and there are a lot of cabless tractors still sold out here that cannot be sold in the UK.
