My major is choked down when i put the oil bath cup back on the breather. i have tried 3diffrent cups off other majors and same thing, i have looked for any reason that would cause this problem, remove the oil cup and the engin runs purfect. i have looked down the intake tube it's wide open, the screen inside the air cleaner is clean, if it was pluged the enging wouldn't run very well anytime. I have used diesel in the oil bath and thinking maybe some dirt will wash down after a while. the diesel in the oil cup gets sucked into the engin. before i installed the air bath, i remvoed it from the tractor and used a hot water pressure washer them put the cup back on and filled it with hot soapy water and let it set, did this 2 times, the down draft pipe isn't too low eather, i have looked at other majors air breathers and there just like mine. I loose 10 hp on the dyno with the oil cup on, anybody else had this problem?

It would seem only logical explanation is the wire mesh in oil bath is clogged.

Have you tried another oil bath air filter, or if you do not have one use a Air filter with paper element. should be able to pick one up at NAPA and adapt it.

If it were me, would try anothr oil bath air filter as in my opinion they are superior to the paper air filters you get today

with the mesh screen pluged up the engin should run the same, the air has to go up threw screen with the cup on or off, there is something wrong when the oil gets sucked out of the cup and into the engin, could be the wrong air cleaner, i picked parts from the salvage yard so there is no telling which major used diffrent air cleaners

Hi. Its going to run diferent with the bath on because that changes the fuel/air mixture, and it is bound to suck through the filter.
Having said that, I cant really come up with a solution, but this is what I would do next: - Remove the side plate from the injector pump and ensure that the rack is moveing freely, then check out the Governor diaphram(assuming you have a vacuum governor and the timing is correct for your system). Other than that I'm blank on this. MTF

hi sorry for the late posting, I have this problem and opened up the air vents on the 'mushroom' to let the engine draw air easier, however I was chatting to my local farmer who ran several majors in their day and he said it was a common problem and usually they took the mushroom right off just to gain the extra horse power.
