valve spring retainer collars

Hi all,

I am still in the very slow process of a 1964 super major ground up rebuild. I have new parts for the head execpt for the spring collar retainers. Two different styles on this 223 diesel . One style for either exhaust or intake is shaped like a doughnut, which I bought from New Holland, the other style is a double groove mug shaped collar. Having trouble locating this style. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Or give me the correct part number as there are many choices on the NH parts website.
Thanks in advance for your help. The machine shop does not reuse them so I need new. Anyone have a set they would sell me?
Thanks for any help

Do you mean the valve collets? pretty picky aren't they. I reused mine without problems. If they are doing the job why do you have to get it.?? Have you compared the valves to see if any difference in manufacture, previous owner may have not bothered too much,? Swap them over and see if they fit.Strange there are different types used.

Hi. I've been trying to come up with an answer to this but I'm a bit confused. Which valve inlet/exhaust do you need collets for.
My book(and experience) gives two different types for the exhaust valves but only one for the inlet.
Your exhaust valves should have a single wide groove but the grooves are a diferent shape. Only the new type is available as replacement. So if you are replacing old type exhaust valves check the grooves against the new ones and you will see that you need new(diferent) retainers, colletts and rotator caps.
Part no's Rotator.........DDN-6550-B
Retainer........DDN-6514-B
Colletts........DDN-6518-B
If by chance you have a set of old type valves(very unlikely but they are available from Agriline) your old parts should be perfectly OK.
If you are talking about the inlet valves; to my knowledge they are all the same and the old colletts should be perfectly OK.
A thought here, as far as I know Fordson never used the same type of colletts/retainers on both inlet and exhaust valves, so I dont fully understand when you say "the same do-nut type on both etc"
Hope this helps and that I don't sound tooooooooo smart-donkey. Since I started this I have checked with Agriline and they show a good pic of all three valves. Their part No's Ex7165&7165A In7166 but they do not list colletts etc seperatly, however I'm sure if you contact them on their site they will have what you need. Just go to www.agrilineproducts.com phone your uk code 1527-579111. If you are stuck come back to me and I will dig around and try to source the bits you need. MTF
