I tried to crank my Ford 8700 after not using it for about three months and it wouldn't start. Fuel is not leaving the Minimec injector pump at any injector line. Good fuel flow through bleed screw on pump. Could the fuel cut-off be stuck? I have moved the cut-off control back and forth serveral times thinking is might free something up, but no luck. Could the injector pump go bad just sitting there. It was replaced in an overhaul less than 2,000 hours ago. Any ideas would be appreciated.

diesel fuel can and does leak from the primer pump on the side of the injection pump. replace the primer pump and you should have no more fuel leaking into the injection pump till the primer pump starts leaking again,,( a few years later )

I would initially just crack all the fuel lines(in turn at the injectors) and turn it over to ensure fuel flow right through the system. If that dont work then have a go at the side panel etc.Its the simple way to go. MTF

Thanks for the reply. I have loosened the front injector line at the pump and turned the engine, but no fuel come out. I'll try your advice. Thanks.

take the side cover off the pump and move the throttle leaver and see if pump rack is moving. i say it won't. if so use a screw driver to pry the rack back and forth. the rack is the bar you can see that has notches cut in it. who knows it could be out of oil.

Problem solved. You were dead on with the pump rack not moving. With it not being used in a while, gunk apparently dried on and prevented movement. I sprayed with carburator cleaner and moved back and forth until it moved freely. The tractor cranked right up after this. I drained the oil in the pump and it appeared diesel fuel had mixed with the oil which concerns me. Is this a sign of wear around pump pistons?

Thanks to all for the help and advice in solving.

I have a 9000 that leaks fuel into the pump so that it starts to come out the overflow tube in less than 10 hours. I have been told that it means a leaking seal and is not unusual and doesn't hurt anything. Since it runs OK I just drain some off and add some new oil periodically.

Sounds logical. I was wondering what had to be done to see if the rack was moving. Thanks for the help lonzo.

I used to have a 9700. Did you try pushing the fuel button on the shut off lever at the pump. Could crack a couple of injector lines too. Just a couple of ideas that don"t cost much to do.

Yea I tried that first. In my experience with Fords in the past, that usually will always take care of it. Thanks for the reply.
