Fordson Aprx. 1929

That's a Model F, last manufactured in 1928. (The Model N was made in Cork, Ireland from 1929 through 1934, then the factory & tooling went to Dagenham, England; tractors very similar to the old Fordson were produced through 1952 or thereabouts).

There were nearly three-quarters of a million of these tractors made during the ten years Ford manufactured them in the United States (the Fordson Model F was to American farms what the Ford Model T automobile was to American roadways). Many farmers who didn't have money to spend on new equipment continued to use these tractors into the 1960s and 1970s (my own grandfather included).

There are still a lot of survivor Fordsons in barns, sheds and outbuildings. Frequently hunters find these old workhorses parked in back fields and fencerows, just waiting for the right person to come along and provide the necessary repairs to get the old 251-ci engine turning again....

Let's hope this one in Pueblo, Colorado finds a good home.

Any idea what this thing is worth or aprx. value?? I may go just to see. but would hate to pass up a bargin if it was going to cheap.

One like it sold here at auction for about $600. Probably scrap price, but then there's the labor of hauling it out and breaking it up. I bought another E27N at the same sale.

The great preponderance of 1920's Fordsons were scrapped in WWII. By then, farmers hated them, they loved their Farmalls. I doubt many Fordson owners switched to John Deere, but they won a lot of loyalty by being a rare company that didn't repossess tractors during the hardtimes.

Of course, the 9N was a big winner.

An old-timer neighbor would expound on the marvels of electric self-starters. The 1939 Farmalls came with starters. Fordson's didn't have starters until 1945.

In the meanwhile, starters and generators were deleted from tractors produced during wartime because of material shortages. Also some gears were not installed. And rubber tires were replaced by steel wheels.
