major vs. super

Can anyone explain the difference between the major and the super. I have been restoring what thought was a major but judging the gas tank and start panel it matches the super. How do I tell the if its a major or super? Were is the motor number? What is the difference in horsepower and other points? I am now looking for a good used supermajor hood emblem and side emblems and I have a new major emblem for sale.

zano, try "www.fordsontractorpages.nl" as all the answers for your questions are there.If your Major is a Super Major the serial number should be found on a plate on the bulkhead between the engine and battery compartment and on a pad on the front right hand side of the engine block.Super Majors also had a diff lock.

Also, the Power Major had the gages beneath the steering wheel like the super. The easiest way to tell is that the Power Major has shoe brakes, while the Super has disk brakes and, as the Swanndri Guy said, a differential lock. Dandy Dave!
