800 Ford 12v Conversion

Hey all, While we're working on the lift of the old 800, we've been kicking around changing it over to 12v. I did that to my dad's 8N alot of years ago and we got a kit from a local nnalert (I think) dealer. He's gone now, so am trying to source a supplier of a quality kit. I see I can get via this website for $150, or was in at my dealer today and they can get me a kit for $203. Kit from here has harness, bracket, belt, and resistor, kit from Ford has all that plus another pulley, I suppose one to change out the fan pully and change the speed that it turns the alternator. Are they all about the same...anybody have any bad experiences with a particular kit? Any watch outs? Do those 800's have the tach drive on the generator like my 3cyl 4000? I've never really looked at that close. Do I need to change the coil, or is it just put on the kit, change the light bulbs and put on a 12V battery, leave the coil/dist alone, and let the starter eventually burn out?
