Fordson Farm Major

Hello, can anyone tell me anything about the Fordson Farm Major produced in '61-'62 or was this model only sold here in Australia. I can only find Major, Power Major and Super Major details on the 'Net'.

The Farm Major was an interesting Australian model. It was actually a stripped down version of the New Major, which was introduced after the release of the Power Major.
In standard form, it had smaller sized tyres fitted to pressed steel wheels, as opposed to the usual cast variety. There was no 3 point linkage or pto either, if I remember correctly. The price was reduced accordingly. Strangely, though, you could option it up to the price of a Power Major and still only have a New Major!
Because tractors weren't made in Australia, where did this old version of the tractor come from? The only thing that makes sense is that there was a fair stockpile of the old model in Australia or the UK. This was a way of reducing it.

So that's the story. Good info. There was a hood emblem on eBay a short time ago and that got a conversation going. The hood badges was designed much like the Power Major. Thanks, Dandy Dave!

Thanks Dandy Dave and Eric,I went through some old Power Farming Magazines today and found 2 ads. for Farm Major and yes, pressed rear wheels,a "new design crankshaft" and three point linkage was standard. Engine 42 Shaft H.P. while the Power Major in the same ad 50.4 H.P. Is there a U.K. site I can try for more info ?

This is an interesting variation which no one seems to know much about.
As you know the prouction line and designs were sold to Spain and sold as EBRO - joint business owned by Ford and the Spanish Government. The "normal" model was the Super 55 which was 99.9% Super Major.
EBRO also sold from 1965 to 68 the Model 48 which was hybrid model similar to the Australian one.
It was basically a Power Major with the de-rated Diesel Major engine, and the Diesel style non scalloped rear wheel centres, and 3 point leveling box. But with no depth control on the 3 point, and non-live pto. An economy model at cheap price. Maybe using up old Diesel Major spares they had brought over from England?

Didn't try hard enough.
Put "Fordson farm major" in the search engine for a few hits. apparently 40 HP in competition with Nuffield and David Brown, had power steering also.From 1959.
