Super Dexta Dying after an hour

My friend has had a Super Dexta diesel which always ran great and a strong tractor. Then his brother borrowed it and it started dying after an hour of use. They took the injector pump in to a shop and they told him it was good. They put it back and they can't figure it out to this day. It starts and runs like normal; then after an hour it just dyes. The prime pump has been replaced.

check the fuel line from tank to injector pump.may be a floater in tank. filters .dirt in fuel pump .diaphragm. tap filter blocking.etc.etc.etc.

Check the fuel tank cap,if the vent is blocked and wont let air into the fuel tank when the tractor is being used, after an hour or two it will create a slight vacuum and starves the injector pump of fuel. Also check/replace the fuel filter. Is the stop cable correctly fittted?TSG.

If it has a newer reproduction fuel cap, be sure it is vented. As Matt says, it will cause a vacumm in the tank and stop the fuel from flowing. If it is not vented, then you may have to drill several small holes in it. Dandy Dave!

I was given a Super Dexta a few years back. The owner could not get it to stay running for very long. He finally gave up and replaced it. I got the tractor and in removing the paint from the oil fill cap I found it was the gas cap. Sometime in adding oil and fueling at the same time the caps had been interchanged thus starving the fuel tank for air. I got a good tractor in exchange for some work on his replacement.

Have you checked to see if fuel flows from tank to lift pump? There is a fine plastic screen located in the fuel tank,it is over the opening to the fuel primer pump. Over the years this can become clogged. The only way to access this is to take off steering wheel, dash, throttle, etc. and unscrew the primer from the bottom of the tank. The screen friction fits into the primer opening. Blowing compressed air into fuel line sometimes is a temporary help, but does not last for long. I have several Dextas and know of no short cut to solve this problem.
