Knocking in motor.

I have a Fordson Dexta, and today it started knocking, in the front end. Sounds as if a jack hammer is making the noise.
Could this be caused by the shim falling out, at the front main bearing, and the crank shaft is hitting the bearing?
Or could if be possibly, the cam shaft hitting somewhere?
Your input, and advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bruce.

Could be that you spun a bearing. Or cracked a piston skirt. It is possible that a cap has come loose. The only way to find out is to tear it down. Dandy Dave!

I just opened up a major that had a knock. Turned out that the cam gear had broken its hub. Must be a weakness in the engine. Maybe the same problem in Dextas?
