need help identifying which, and what year, fordson engine is in my 205 timberjack skidder. Engine SN S307169. Has simms P4633 injection pump. Great runner for years but as soon as I open my mouth, something is going to happen.

That's an industrial serial number. Hard for us tractor guys to figure out. Do you have some pictures? Is it 4 cyl or 6 cyl? Does it have vacuum lines coming from the intake to the injector? Does it have an exposed injector drive shaft?

I have a 6 cyl Ford 590E engine numbered S366961. They were built from 1957 to 1965. Yours would be somewhat older than mine. In 1962, they came with an FL head, and a mechanical governor. Mine is mechanical, but I don't think it is an FL. So we are probably talking early 1962.

So what I'm coming to is that your engine is probably about a 1960 model.

I'll check for vac lines when it gets light out. It's a 4 cyl. The pump shaft coupling is exposed between back of timing cover and pump. I dont have pictures(digitally challenged).I seem to recall no bulb like diaphram chamber on the front of the pump. I think the fuel shutoff and throttle are towards the rear of the pump opposite the coupling end. I will confirm at daylight.Other features are angled exhaust manifold bolt holes, and decompression handle on front of head.

That is not a fordson it is a ford (british) diesel it is a 220 used in most early timberjacks. I have a dealer who may be able to get parts I have not dealt with one for years.

thanks, I'll take you up on that dealer offer. I guess you could post it here or email it to [email protected] . By the way is that a ford dealer or a timberjack dealer. I guess I'll see when I see. Thanks people, John.

I have that exact machine, and I bought an engine rebuild kit from a place called SE tractor parts. Found them on the Internet, prices are good, staff is helpful, and motor runs excellent with their rebuild kit in it.

Actually that pretty much is a Fordson engine, apart from the governor and a few other minor parts, 99.9% of the Fordson parts are interchangeable. If it didn’t have the exposed injection pump drive it would probably be the D series “Dorset England” that depending on the application and country can have several different series designations.

(quoted from post at 00:43:24 01/24/14) 220 ford desil. exhaust out breather, sucking air through exhaust pipe. got any thought of ailment. Tom
I would be taking a good guess that the head gaskets gone between 2 cylinders next to each other. and it's pulling and pushing air/ exhaust from the valve timing sequence in the 2 that are now joined together by bad gasket.
so basically a cylinder that should be both valves closed is now leaking into a cylinder that has an open valve in, so if one is compression stroke other may have exhaust or intake open. this then causes the mixing.
Bet it don't start worth anything either, if it even starts.
as probably only 2 cylinders are sealing right for compression out of 4.
Hope this makes sense Know what I mean but kinda hard to right it down.
Regards Robert
