Fordson N rebuilt block serial number

A mate of mine has just purchased a very original, early '41 Fordson N. The only problem being that the original serial number on the block (between the front 2 manifold studs) looks to have been removed and replaced with R7012. I've never seen this before and wonder if anyone could help out with regards to who or where this has been done. Could it have been a particular engine rebuilder as i thought factory re-con units had a number stamped on the bell housing?

any help is appreciated!

Rebuilt engine number corresponds to 1950. Done in the factory by Ford. Some were done using E27N blocks. Does it have a place for the starter?

No, it's a standard fordson N block, with no place for the starter. Do you have the serial numbers for engines that have been rebuilt? The reason i ask is that i may have got that number slightly incorrect. I remembered the number but would have to double heck it to make sure it was right.
