fordson power major overhaul

I am overhauling a fordson major diesel. The thrust washers had burnt out so I found a used block and machine shop fixed my crank. I ordered new standard thrust washers from the New Holland dealer. My question is the new thrust washers have two grooves in them I don't know if I should put grooves toward crank or towards block? If anyone can answer this for me I would be Thankful.

Hi Just read the relevant paragraph in the manual. Quote "Using a thin film of grease, stick the thrust washer upper halves into the recess at centre main bearing jourmal making sure that the oil grooves in the washer face out away from the block casting. Then the same in the centre main bearing cap". Anything else I can help with just ask. Regards MTF

Thanks for the info on the thrust washers I now have them in correctly and all the mains torqed to specs. Now I am trying to remember which way the dimple on the rods face. Quess I should have taken pictures. I should've known that 3 mos. later and a trip to the machine shop would mess up my dissassembly organization.

The book goes on to say..
"stick thrust washer lower halves in recess of cap. Make sure that the oil groove faces of TW are out [away from main brg cap. Instal mbc cap with "rear" on cap to rear of engine. Front cap with flat face forward others with rear to rear of engine." Does that mean one each way??
