Lucas Generator Wiring help needed...

Hello Folks... I am sure someone here can help me.. I am trying to install a Lucas C40 (2 pole) generator and a Lucas 6 pole voltage regulator on a Super major tractor.. This is suppose to be the correct combination and matched set... the problem is that the British Nomenclature is apparently different as far as wiring goes.. My first question is is this tractor suppose to be positive or negative ground??? Secondly.. the markings on the regulator"s 6 terminals are as follows: E-D-WL-F-B+ & B+.... since I have no wiring to go by at all I must wire all from scratch... It is very hard to find any reference material on the net about this so I came here to the real experts! Thanks !!!

I'm GUESSING here, but here goes... (Don't blame me if you let all the smoke out of the system!)

E = "Earth" = Chassis ground

D = "Dynamo" = "ARM" in US terms connects to "D" on generator.

WL = "Warning light"

F = "FIELD" Connects to "F" on generator

B+ = "BATTERY" in US terms... connects to ammeter or direct to battery, if ammeter is not used.

Take a look at this VOLKS wiring diagram, IGNORING the components other than the charging system.... the Bosch or Lucas connections should be about the same.

looks like the same marking a lucas reg for a thousand series has.

should be negative ground if 12v..

Originally the Major had a C39 Lucas generator and a 5 pole regulator, and was +ground. The original wiring diagram probably won't help. Bob's diagram should work. Don't forget to polarize it after you get it installed.

My 54 FMD is 12 volt, positive ground and I just scanned my Repair Manuel electrical Section for the Generator and Regulator but can"t figuer out how to addd it to this reply.
So Galen if you would like it please email me at [email protected] and I will send it to you. I thought I could post it for all but have to persue this further.

I've got a wiring diagram "up" in my photoslots. If you post your email address I'll email it direct to you(or to anyone else who would like it)The photo is too big to put on here without a lot of trouble.(yes I finally do know how to do it although its taken me a long long time to learn) MTF

This is the wiring diagram from my FMD book MTF

Hi Mike,
I would like an emailed copy of your wiring diagram My repair manuel that came with my FMD doesn't have one. It has the regulator but not the system.
Thanks
NN

I'm new at this, so pardon my ignorance.
I also would like a copy of the wiring diagram.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Super C / and manual, but diagram is not entirely helpful.
Esp, the manual diagram shows a voltage regulator.
My generator is apparently is pre-vr, and has what appears
to be a breaker? so the posts aren't identical.

And positive ground, which I'm still trying to wrap my mind around.
