FMD Remote Hyd. Cylinder

I see the plugs where the remote hydraulic lines hook up to the control valve on my 1955 FMD. Right now there is just one hose attached. If I remove the remaining plug and attach another hose, will the valve operate a double acting cylinder?

What is the proper way (or common way) of keeping the lift arms in place for remote cylinder use? All the way up? all the way down? Or can I leave them in the middle for 3pt drawbar work?

My Fordson Power Major has a separate lever to work the remote cylinder, and it has two hoses running to it for a double acting cylinder. I can use the 3 point hitch, and the cylinder at the same time. My Tractor came this way and I am not sure if it is the same as yours? Will post a photo, or two, for you later so that you can see the way it is plumbed. Dandy Dave!

Here are the photos that I took earlier today. When I got this tractor it only had one hose hooked up on one side but it had two hose connections in the back as the photo shows. I just took out the plug from the remote cylinder valve and ran a second hose to the side that was not hooked up. It works the Cylinder on my York Rake just fine as well as the three point hitch raises and lowers the rake as well. If yours is not the same then maybe someone else can fill us in. Dandy Dave!

Mine is not the same, but I wish it was! The two plugs I referred to point directly at the left fender/mudguard on the control valve. Yours looks like an added on remote valve control, it was probably an option from the factory.

I got looking though some of my old Fordson Power Major literature and I guess that the remote cylinder valve is an add on item. It will work double acting cylinders. The literature says that the lift lever can be used to work a single acting cylinder. I am not sure how to pipe it up. Maybe someone else can help. Looks like I have all the goodies, except I just need to know what the model of the Lucas horn is so I can put one back on it. Knowing the family that originally bought the tractor, I have often wondered if it was not a dealer demonstator and that is why it is loaded. They probably got a good deal on it after it was several years old. This tractor was a gift from one of my friends. Although I have spent time and money restoring it, I guess I sliped in it without knowing at the time.
