Wow! Just got my FSM Diesel - Water in Hydraulic Resivior

Will take some time to learn how to operate the backhoe smoothly....

Couple of questions. Hydraulic fluid resivior has water in it (oil is milky looking.) Is it good enough just to change the fluid in the resivior or do I need to purge all fluid out from all the hydraulic cylinders?

kind of a big leak from between the transmission and differential. I know that is a hard fix, but had a crazy idea to catch the fluid in a wired on pan and re-use it until I can split the cases and fix it right. Think that might work for a while?

I think it is good to catch the oil before it gets left on the ground.
How will you clean the oil before you put it back in?
It would be better to fix first, then use.

Your leak!!! Try this; but be very careful and though it works well treat it as only temporary. Take a triangular file and gently open up a grove along the edges of the two mating surfaces.If you are really daring you can use a small grinder like a dremmel. Clean really well to gid rid of any oil in the area. Very quickly seal it with metal fillers. You dont need a big grove. One day you will need to split and fix so maybe its "bite the bullet" time. Hope it goes well. MTF
 
If it were mine, I would split it and fix it the right way the first time. Then you know that it will be right. Also, I would look the case over carefully to be sure it is leaking around the bolts/ halves and that it is not a crack somewhere. See if the bolts are loose. Just tightening them may help. A backhoe will add a lot of stress to these areas of the tractor. Good luck with your newly aquired FMD Back Hoe. I have a Massy 30D Backhoe/ Loader for about 7 or 8 years now. Has a Perkins Diesel something like the Dexta, but a newer version. It has been a great machine.
