Power major hydraulics

On my PowerMajor I find operating the front loader or my newly aquired finger bar hedge cutter tricky because their spoolvalves connect to the aux hydraulic outlet and cannot be operated independently from the lift arms. I believe the SuperMajor improved on this with a different design. Recently while disscussing this with a local farmer he offered me a complete hydraulic/lift arm unit from a SuperMajor. - My question is - can I swap the my PowerMajor unit for the SuperMajor one., and so be able to lift the link arms to a mid posn, then operate other attachments without moving the arms.

I have a 1963 FSM.

I have a front and back blade, cannot operate both together.

My FSM has some form of unit untop of the hydraulics under the seat, that connects to the levers that operate my front blade.

Unit has a knob that when pushed in allows the rear hydraulics to work and when pulled out only the front blade works.

I can leave the front or rear hydrulics in whatever position I want while operating the other.

I have no idea whether hydraulics from a FSM will with a FPM. But if it is all external I really dont see why not, once you can get the connections to fit.

in the repair manual fordson major diesel and fordson power major are covered together in the hyd. section, fordson super major has its own section concerning hydraulics. that leads me to believe they are not interchangable. FMD and FPM were basically the same tractor from all my reading, FSM was engineered differently all around. but if you find otherwise please correct me.

Super Major & SM5000 have completely different top cover and internals to the Diesel & Power Majors.
Simplist way to solve your problem is to fit screw valve into pipework for the loader to isolate the loader when not in use. Best place for valve is near to seat so you can operate it whilst sitting down.
