I would like some info on my English Fordson. It was origanally all Orange and according to the serial # it"s a 38. My question is: Is it supose to have tool box fenders? mine does and the bottom layer of paint is orange. It also has a tank that has the starting tank. But it"s a gas only engine. But it is orange under the tank straps. The only reason for asking about origanality is that an old timer told me I had a cobbed together tractor and want to know if it is. I can find Orange on all parts except the wheels which I believe are not original. They are cut offs. I do have some pictures of said tractor if anyone is interested in helping me out with my dilema. Another thing I found is the phrase "Ireland freee states" cast Under the mag housing. Is this normal?

Thanks for any input!

Hi Rusty, Sounds like your tractor has parts from different years. Not uncommon. I have one myself made up of parts from many years. A 38' Fordson would not have toolbox fenders. Some of the characteristics of a 1938 are: an oil bath air cleaner, the clutch pedal behind the axle housing, Fordson logo on the radiator side panels, a PTO plate on the right side of the transmission housing. The fuel tank is the same for both the kerosine and gasoline tractors. The end plate should say "Ford Motor Company, LTD." The mag bracket may have come from an Irish Fordson 1929-32. Hope this helps you out.

This is a 1937 Fordson Model N in original unrestored condition. The 1938 model differed by having an oilbath air cleaner with a tall inlet pipe on the otherside of the gas tank. 1937 was still blue with orange wheels. However, most any tractor used for municipal work or construction would be painted orange or yellow. Orange was standard for 1938.
