recently purchased a major diesel and not sure if it is 12 volt or 6 volt, + or - ground????

any help appreciated-------it's a 1955 fordson major diesel THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

I have a bunch of them, and they came from the factory as 12 volt, positive ground. The regulator is in the box that holds the gauges, in front of the gearshift. If it has an alternator on it now, its negative ground. If it still has the original Lucas generator, its positive ground.

It may have been changed in a past life.
check your battery.. which post is earthed. negative to earth.. neg ground or vice versa. It will be 12 v. 6 caps in the battery each 2 volt 6x2=.
The original with regulator and generator was + ground.
