fuel injector problem

I have a 56 Major Diesel, and am not getting fuel out of #2 from the pump. I can take the line off, and just get a trickle out. I have taken the fittings off the top, pulled the spring, needle valve and seat out, cleaned them, and run a wire down the hole... What am I missing? Or do I have to pull the injector apart? what kind of job is that?

Any help would be appreciated

Assuming you have a normal simms pump, take the side off and check that the #2 push rod is actually moveing up and down. turn the engine over and you will see what I mean. It sounds to me as if it is stuck 'up'. Not exactly the rarest fordson problem. MTF

Thanks mike...will try that, was curious about taking the plate off though, never had an injector apart before, was worried about 'loose' parts spilling and sproinging out. And if the pushrod isn't moving?

That fuel line was plugged, and looked like it had been that way for a while (hard to break through with wire). Thinking that there's some gunk in the injector too. Haven't been able to find a schematic online yet. be nice to know what I'm getting into.

And you're right... it is a simms

If the rod is not moving it has to be stuck "up". It should not hurt anything to turn the engine over a few times while watching the movement to confirm if its stuck. Then this is what I do: -Pour lots of 'easing oil' around the bottom of the push rod, then find a longish thin bar that you can just get on to the lowest possible protrusion on the push rod(Iv'e actually got an old flat blade screwdriver bent for this job) and tap it to loosen it. If it does not move flick the starter to move the cam shaft inside the pump and tap again. I have actually been in the situation of having to do it with the engine ticking over. If the push rod isn't stuck then advising from 3000 miles away borders on difficult MTF

Ok, so pulled the side off, and when I turn it over, ONLY # 4 moves... Yet the other day when I bled the fuel system, I know that fuel was squirting out of #1, 3, and 4. what gives?

I dont see what could have happened in such a short period and I think with this one that ultimately you may have to go along to your nearest deisel engineers and get it fixed. However before that when you had the side off was the stop control fully forward?. I would suggest ensure the stop is fully forward. Press in the cold start and see if it will start up if it starts you will then only have to fix your #2 if not the remedy is not within my DIY experience. Anybody else got an input on this one. If you do decide to remove the pump for repair I suggest that you put a couple of marks on it to ensure it goes back in the same place. MTF

hi further to mine of yesterday. Having had a good think. Before you actually send it to an agent you could try freeing them all individually on the tractor or take it off and try freeing all the pumps by hand. It will certainely cost a lot less and you will be able to get a better "feel" for when they are in the right position for tapping back down.(you may have to work them up and down quite a few times ro get them to move really freely). I'vebeen all through my info and cant find a different way of dealing with this.much sorry MTF
