Fordson Power Major Dual Clutch setup

I've just installed a new clutch into my power major, the cluch is aligned with the splines on the output shaft on the gear box but I now need to adjust the lever screws so that they engage the thrust bearing evenly. The clutch was built up from two broken clutches so it now needs aligning. Does anyone know of an easy way of doing this without the aid of the stepped gage block thay talk about in the workshop manual??

Hi:

I have a FSM but have never had to deal with clutch issues as of yet (keep my fingers crossed)

However I just rebuilt a MF 135 with dual clutch for my dad in the Caribbean. It has a two stage clutch and I used a piece of glass on a level table to adjust the nuts on the pressure plate fingers to make sure the Release bearing was contacting them evenly.

So far they have not had any problems. Tractor has been running a bush hog on a daily basis for about a month now.

Hope this helps

Kenneth

Without the proper tools there is no way to do this. The adjuster screws will determine where the pedal engages the clutch. To far out and the clutch will slip, to far in and the pedal may not disengage the clutch. When I rebuilt mine, I looked at the settings of all 3 fingers, and adjusted somewhere in between. Not rocket science. And it works fine. Just set all screws the same depth. Other than that you should be good. (also, do not adjust any of the settings for the pedal, if the pedal needs adjustment, then you will need to remove the engine and adjust the finger screws again)
Regards,
