Am looking at what purports to be a Super Major. The serial No. on the right front side of the 4 cyl diesel is 1642672. Cannot find anything to mathc. Any help would be great. Thanks,
Bill

I think I solved my mystery. The number denotes a late 1961 Power Major. But someone has replaced the hood and radiator cowl with Super Major parts. The hood is a little too long for the body but I can live with it. Next question. Is there any to adjust the steering box? This thing wanders all over and the linkages are all fairly tight, so, that leaves the box.
Has some leaks but I think it runs pretty well. Oh, who makes the engine?
Thanks,
Bill

There is adjustment in the steering box but its too detailed for me to type in here so you will need to 'get the book',sadly my scanner is not working so I am unable to send the pages to you. Having read it I'm not sure that it will solve your problem but its worth a try. MTF

I don't think that you have a 1961 Power Major, because they stopped making them in Oct. 1960, when they started making the Super Major. I just measured my Power Major and Super Major hoods, and they are both the same length. I'm not sure which tractor you have, but it could be a Super Major. Does it have a lever inboard from the 3 point lever that says "Position Control" and "Qualitrol" by it? Does it have a small differential lock pedal behind the brake pedals? Can you post any pictures of it? I'm curious now. I like to know what this one is.

Hi Bendee that serial# is the first one of the month and they were producing about 3750 per month. Even so at best it would need to be 1624xxxx. So I am guessing that if the serial# reads something like that it must have been one of the last in that numbering sequence. The very last wow? With reference to the steering is there a lot of play between the steering wheel and the drop arm? MTF

I am sooo confused. I have what is supposed to be a 196x Super Major. The serial number on the engine 1596858. Another post elsewhere suggested that if the the throttle linkage was connected directly to the injection pump then the engine is a New Performance Super Major. The throttle lever is located next to the sterring wheel. All id badges and the front cowling matches a Super Major. Can anyone shed light on what year this thing might be?

Ser. No. is 1602672.
The "0" looks a lot like a triangle so that's why I thought it might be a "4".
I finally got it cleaned up and was able to see everything.
I'll try to attach some pics.

May 1961, nearly a twin for Peters. My book does not differentiate between Makes, but just gives a list of serial numbers, I can't tell if it's a power or super etc.
