Hi
Sorry to post a common question but I am confused. I bought a Fordson Major Diesel which I was told was an early one by the dealer (1952 or 1953). The casting number on the front axel is: 12N3 E27N 30/05. The casting number under the seat is A27U (27 January 1953?) and the serial number on the partition between the fuel tank and engine is 1277067 (1954?). Are my guesses of my dates correct? Is the tractor a E27N or an E1A? What is 12N3?
Thanks

Your tractor is a E1ADDN Major. The serial number is January 1954 and with the date codes of all the other parts I would say she is original.

The lift date code of January 1953 would probably mean that the lift casting had been held in stock. Not all Majors came with lifts as standard so casting could be held a time.

The axle is a November 1953. A number of parts in the tractor have part numbers that start E27N and this is what you are reading.
