9600 Pros and Cons

Depends on what it was used on. Some guys like to turn those tractors up hp wise and had mixed results. My Uncle had one and it was a good tractor until he got to using it on everything, just wore it out. I will say they can be had much cheaper than a red or green tractor of similar size. Think the second one my uncle got was for $6000 and it served him well. One of those Fords was known to have cavitation issues with the motor, I cannot remember if it was the 9600 or a smaller one, I'm thinking 401 block so that should be the 9600. Overall if they were treated right they are a good tractor. Still see quite a few of them around here.

Pros: Cheap big horsepower.

Cons: Undesirable shift pattern. Shift forks weak and prone to breaking. U-bolt rear axles prone to coming loose and wearing out wheel. PTO live drive shaft could fail at any time, rendering the entire machine useless if it has Dual Power. If it has a cab on it, you'd better invest in a pair of ear muffs if you wish to save your hearing. Then there's the typical Ford block cavitation issue. I'll stop there.
