860 replacement PTO shaft pics questions

I purchased a replacement PTO shaft for my 860. The splines are nowhere even close to the original. The bottom of the profile on the new one is .025 wider than the original. I tried to stuff it in and it slid in until only about a 1/2" to go then it got tight. I think it might go with a large bump or 8.

Well I contacted Steiner which is where3 the shaft came from. Finally got a tech. He finally tracked down the email I sent to customer service and looked at the pictures I sent.

He said he pulled 8 out of their stock of 17 and they were all the same. Then he explains that they have gotten and sold 200 of these shafts and only had 2 people contact them about the difference.

I have included the pics. The original one is on the right.

What do you all think?

I think, someone screwed up. Those aren't even the same TYPE of spline, much less pitch and tooth count. One is a parallel key, and the other is involute or crown.

Sheesh. Steiner didn't know this? Yikes.

While old PTO female may fit sometimes, it will be a bother if a PTO driven piece of equip actually had the right spline to mate the tractor.
