I resealed the steering box. When I turn the wheel all the way to the left the steering shaft raises up (out) about 3/16". When I turn the steering shaft all the way to the right the shaft goes down (in)an 1/8" (+ or-).There is about 3 3/8 full turns on the wheel.

Is this correct?

If it is a manual steering box, the steering shaft should not move up and down at all. If it is a power steering box, it should move up and down about 1/16" or so.

Did you follow the instructions in the service manual when reassembling to tighten the large nut to a certain point, then back it off a certain amount, and then stake it in place?

I did snug up the big nut and stake it in place. I tried to guess how tight since their are no actual torque settings. The new staking is within 1/4 to 3/8" from the old one.
