Another 1978 515 mystery part (Industrial 4600)

The tractor is my 1978 Ford 515 (Industrial version of the 4600) and the part is located on the right side of the transmission.

I have looked on Messicks for this part (both under the 515 and the 4600), have done web searches and looked in the service manual but have yet to find it shown anywhere.

I suspect it may be a breather for the transmission but the red grease inside is news to me.

Sorry about the blurry picture it was rough getting the picture holding the cap where it would be in the shot with the base.

So, can anyone identify the part?

Thanks in advance.

Clutch shaft lubricator. Ford put those on the industrials for loader work. I'd bet a little money that the grease in the tube is hard as a rock.

I would say it's pretty thick if nothing else. Thanks, I guess I better clean it out and put some fresh grease in it.

Cool, Would have never found it there unless by accident. Thank you for the link.

That's used for adding grease to the throwout bearing or as they call it the clutch release bearing, there's a hose inside the clutch housing that connects them together.
My 4500 has a similar lube cup.

The picture looks good to me. Sure better than none. 8) Thank you.

My only question is: Is it a rubber hose or is it a metal line?
It may make a difference on just how aggressively I try to clean it out. If it's rubber I may not try hard at all to keep from rupturing or breaking the 30+ year old hose.
Thanks

Braided rubber line like a short grease gun hose, pretty tuff, has to be flexible to move back and forth with the release bearing every time you push the clutch pedal down.
The one on my 69 4500 is the original.
I wouldn't worry about the grease in the line, just clean the cup and fill it with fresh #2 grease.
I don't have a operators manual for mine but unless your using it daily for backhoe and loader work i wouldn't grease the bearing to often.
My 4500 only sees 50-100 hrs pre year, I give the cup one turn once or twice per year depending on the tractors use.

Thanks Destroked 450
That makes sense (the moving with the release bearing).
Cleaning out the grease in the cup and putting in some new grease sounds a lot easier than trying to clean the hose as well. Sounds like a plan.
I have been using the loader a good bit since I got the tractor last year and I am sure the previous owner used it a lot too judging by the wear & tear on the bucket.
I will keep in mind not turning it too often. At least now I know what it's for and what to do with it.
Thanks again.
