871 gear R1, 1 and 2 stop

Hi. I want to learn how this SOS functions to help fix minor adjustment issues.

What causes gears one and two to stop engaging while in gear?

Sometimes thus happens in R1.

Im not a mechanic and i need to keep this nachine in operating condition so its reliable.

Your help is appreciated.

What does it do in 5,6 & 9? If these also exhibit similar symptoms . . . and it still has the original red transmission . . . it's more than likely failure of the over-running clutch (ORC).

The first things I'd do, however, are:

1. If it hasn't been changed recently, change the oil. Make sure to use oil of the proper spec.

2. Adjust the bands properly.

I should add: Make sure it has ENOUGH clean proper oil in it.

My email is open on modern view as best I can tell. Short of that, please start a new thread detailing which SOS machine and version of the transmission you have and your symptom or symptoms..

When I took my SOS apart the pump suction screen looked like a dead rat. It was covered to the point I don t know how any oil got through it at all. Make sure you pull that screen and clean it while you have to oil out. Starving the pump is not good.
