Ford 950 Carburetor Flooding Out

Now that I've got the overheating resolved, I'm having a problem with the carburetor flooding out. If I turn it off and let it sit a few minutes with the shutoff valve on the tank still open, I've got gasoline pouring out through the carburetor onto the ground.

loat/needle/seat are not functioning correctly.

As JMOR said the problem is your float valve. The problem with them is usually that they get stuck and don't open. Failure to close is likely a problem with the float, like bent and rubbing on the side of the bowl, or leaking and not floating. You need to just get a kit and separate the float bowl and set it per instructions in your manual.

I tore it down last night and found the inside of the carburetor was clean a s a whistle, but the float is binding at the pivot. I used some jewler's files to debur everytrhing and placed an order for a new seat and gaskets.

John, congratulations on getting it apart and finding your problem. Your kit will contain a new float needle with a viton tip. Those tips are prone to getting stuck to the orifice, causing a no fuel situation. If your present needle is all brass it is recommended that you reuse that old one rather than the new neoprene tipped one.
