7710 tach issues

the tach on my 7710 II quit working a while back. I ordered a new cable as the old one was cracked at the engine end. When I put the new one on, it still isn't registering RPMs on the dash. I have searched through the manual, but have been unable to find anything definitive as to the internal mechanisms that drive the cable off the engine.

Any thoughts on what to check or might be wrong? The picture I found in the manual does not match up to what I am seeing where the cable goes into the block. I will try to upload a photo in the next day or so.

Open station model, no cab.

thanks

Possibly the short drive cable that runs through that fitting on the block. Maybe 5" long? Parts lookup on the New Holland site will show it, owner's manual isn't likely to.
