Ford 641 trouble

I was scraping some hard dirt up with the loader and all of a sudden a loud pop and there it sits. The tranny is still moving on the input side because if you shift fast you can feel the gears moving in there. Must be on the output side????? Where should i start tearing into it at??????
Any help please
Thank you

It is easier for me to take the six bolt PTO shifter cover off and see if the drive shaft is still doing its thing!

If it's the coupler shaft between the tranny and rear end, you should almost be able to tell by taking the pto cover off. This would require a split between the tranny and rear end. Done that on a 961 after removing a mounted picker made harder by not being able to move the tractor without pulling one way or the other.
Pull the fill cover off of the rear end and shine a flashlight down there, may be able to see something (ring gear) move. If does, make sure whole differential moves or it may just be the rivets or bolts from the ring gear to the differential. Seen that one on an 860.

Speaking of mounted picker. I replaced the drive shaft on a 960 with the picker still mounted. Never touched the picker. Could roll the front ahead far enough.

Sorry yes lift cover. You can take the side cover off where the pto selector is and look inside. No pin in the coupling. You'd have to split the tractor to take apart and put back together. You could also jack the tractor up and spin the wheels see if you can pin point where noise is coming from or Grinding if any

Well i started tractor put in gear and looked in the oil fill for the diff, and the ring and pinion are all going around. I stopped the engine and jacked up left wheel and spun wheel, looked in oil fill and ring and pinion are going around. Jacked up right side spun wheel and nothing turned in the diff. I take it that means axle? How bad is it to change? Can i pull axle and leave housing on? Is there something in the diff that could be broke?
