Tranny question

Hello all I'm looking at a Ford 4000 industrial four-cylinder gas
that has a select o speed that couple the gears are shot my
question is I have a five speed transmission out of an 861 will
that bolt right up and also could I put just a single stage clutch
on it instead of the dual stage clutch. Thanks

I have the trans to axle coupler. But I'd have to get a pto shaft. Which won't be hard. These couple guys with bone yards close to me. I'm assuming that the trans will work with a single stage clutch?

That ain't all your gonna need! You will need the double clutch and the flywheel from the 861 also. And a single stage clutch won't work with that 5 speed from that 861.

I have the dual clutch and the flywheel. I know I'm gonna need those. I was just curious if I could put a single stage clutch on it. The dual clutch was wearing on the collar that goes around the tranny shaft. Do you know what that would be from? Riding the clutch?

"collar that goes around the tranny shaft" Are you referring to the throw-out bearing? Are the 6 set screws wore? Perhaps a new throw out bearing is needed!

You probably need a new collar. I had a collar that was rounded off on the end, theres not much surface where the throwout bearing presses onto the collar. The throwout bearing was just riding where it wanted too. I heard you can go to a single clutch with the 861 tranny but cant go to a double clutch with a 851 tranny as some internals are different. You would need the single clutch input shaft and nose cone.

The spline count is not the same between the output of manual trans and pinion of select-o-speed rear axle. We had some adaptor couplers made up at my old work, but you'd have to call them to see if there are any left. Their number is 800-828-6943.
